   The Admiralty ship-building shipyards have been put by Peter I on the left coast of Neva in the fall of 1704. The project has been developed by the sovereign and included shipyards, docks, workshops for construction and repair of the ships, and also warehouses for storage of construction materials, ship arms and equipment.



   One of the oldest architectural complexes of St. Petersburg, Alexander Nevsky Lavra, have been put in 1710 on that place at Neva where according to the legend there was the major fight with Swedes which has defined a victory of Russia.



The cruiser "Aurora" moored at Petrovskaya Embankment opposite to school of Nakhimov, is not only a monument of domestic shipbuilding, but also a symbol of the Soviet era


    Laying of Kazan Cathedral has taken place on August 27, 1801. Before on a site about Nevsky Avenue there was small stone Church of the Nativity of the Virgin constructed in 1733-1737 on the project of the architect M. G. Zemtsov. The miraculous icon of the Kazan Mother of God brought from Moscow to St. Petersburg by order of Peter the Great was stored in her.



The building of Kunstkamera (in translation from German - "an office of rarities") has been put in 1718 on the project of the architect G. Mattarnovi. It intended for library and a collection "monsters and rarities", collected by Peter I


The history of Pavlovsk as magnificent palace and park ensemble has begun on December 12, 1777 when Ekatherine II has presented a small ground in six kilometers from Tsarskoye Selo to the son Pavel and his wife Maria Fiodorovna on the occasion of the birth of their firstborn - future emperor Alexander I. The new estate has been called "the village Pavlovsk". But already shortly hardly it was possible to call promptly changing estate the village.


   The Peter and Paul Fortress takes the central place in architectural composition of St. Petersburg, and the Peter and Paul Cathedral which is in her territory with a high belltower is one of the main signs of the city.   


   Located in 30 km from the center of St. Petersburg, Petrodvorets is one of the most refined and most known palace and park ensembles of the world. Without any exaggeration it is possible to call it the main decoration of "a pearl necklace" of St. Petersburg as for unique magnificence call suburbs of the Northern capital.


   Majestic St. Isaac's Cathedral conducts the history from the small wooden church put under Peter the Great's decree in 1710. The church has been constructed near the Admiralty, on that place where today there is a Bronze Horseman. The temple was consecrated in honor of Isaaki Dalmatsky, the heavenly patron Peter the Great. The emperor loved this temple. In Isaakiyevsky church Peter I and Ekaterina Alekseevna wedding, future empress Ekatherine I has taken place on February 19, 1712. And in 1723 the tsar Petr has signed the special decree under which seamen of the Baltic Fleet had to take the oath only in this church.



The State Hermitage occupies five majestic buildings along Neva River Embankment in the center of St. Petersburg: Winter Palace, Small, Big and New Hermitages, Hermitage theater. The part of an exposition of the museum is placed in Menshikov's palace and the former General Staff Building at Palace Square.
In two and a half centuries in the Hermitage one of the largest collections of world art numbering about three million monuments representing cultural heritage of various people since the Stone Age and up to now has been collected.



The State Russian Museum - the world's largest meeting of the Russian fine arts numbering about 400 000 exhibits. In the museum works of all main directions and schools of domestic art, since 10 are presented and finishing the 20th century. The ceremonial interiors of the Mikhailovsky Palace which have kept the initial finishing organically supplement a museum exposition.


Strelna, one of the oldest suburbs of St. Petersburg, is located in 19 kilometers from the city, on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland
