   Majestic St. Isaac's Cathedral conducts the history from the small wooden church put under Peter the Great's decree in 1710. The church has been constructed near the Admiralty, on that place where today there is a Bronze Horseman. The temple was consecrated in honor of Isaaki Dalmatsky, the heavenly patron Peter the Great. The emperor loved this temple. In Isaakiyevsky church Peter I and Ekaterina Alekseevna wedding, future empress Ekatherine I has taken place on February 19, 1712. And in 1723 the tsar Petr has signed the special decree under which seamen of the Baltic Fleet had to take the oath only in this church.

   The ceremonial opening and consecration of St. Isaac's Cathedral which has been proclaimed a cathedral of Russian Orthodox Church have taken place on May 30, 1858. The temple became the center of city festivals, in him there passed all main church services and christening of members of an imperial family.
   St. Isaac's Cathedral takes the fourth place in the world in size, conceding only to St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome, to St. Paul's Cathedral in London and to St. Mary's Cathedral in Florence. The cathedral reaches 101.52 meters in height at the area of 4000 square meter and can accomodate up to 12000 people. In registration of an interior numerous works of painting, a mosaic, sculpture, different types of jewels and gilding have been used. One of the stained-glass windows, largest in Russia, which area makes 28.5 square meters is of special interest. Outstanding masters among whom - Bryullov, Clodt, Pimenov and others have taken part in works on finishing of a cathedral.
   The temple wonderfully wasn't damaged during World War II: for years of blockade in a cathedral there was no direct hit though on columns of St. Isaac's Cathedral it is possible to see traces from splinters of the become torn shells to this day.
   Today the museum-memorial St. Isaac's Cathedral is one of the best cathedrals of Europe and one of the most visited museums of St. Petersburg. Visitors have an opportunity to rise by a colonnade of a drum and from height of 43 meters to admire a downtown panorama. In 1988, for the first time after a long break, in a cathedral the service dated for celebration in Russia of the millennium of adoption of Christianity has been held.
