The State Russian Museum - the world's largest meeting of the Russian fine arts numbering about 400 000 exhibits. In the museum works of all main directions and schools of domestic art, since 10 are presented and finishing the 20th century. The ceremonial interiors of the Mikhailovsky Palace which have kept the initial finishing organically supplement a museum exposition.

   Besides painting, the Russian Museum collections include collections of a sculpture, graphics, numismatics, Old Russian applied art, engravings. Annually in the museum there take place about 30 temporary exhibitions.
   The Russian Museum is placed in four buildings located in historic center of St. Petersburg. These are Stroganovsky and Marble palaces, the Mikhailovsky (Engineering) Castle and the main building of the museum - the Mikhailovsky Palace with Benois's case. The Mikhailovsky Palace has received the name by name the owner - the grand duke Mikhail Pavlovich, the younger brother of the emperor Alexander I.
   The State Russian Museum - not only the museum, but also the largest research center which staff are many famous scientists-art critics, doctors and candidates of science.
