I tried to get a sense of the wonder of Baikal,
but its majesty was just too great for words to fit it all

Bogoyavleniya cathedral is the Orthodox church (in the XVIII—XIX centuries it was a cathedral church) located in historic center of Irkutsk on the crossing of streets Sukhe-Bator and Nizhnyaya Naberezhnaya of Angara. It is the second oldest stone building of Irkutsk.

Inhabitants of the Irkutsk jail constructed the first wooden Bogoyavlensky cathedral in 1693. In 1716 it was destroyed by the fire, on its place construction of the stone church was begun and it continued 30 years. In 1797 under the leadership of the talented young master Alexey Unzhakov the bell weighing 12 tons was cast. It was the biggest bell in the city. It was very remarkable casting, that bell was like Siberian Tsar Bell and it  got a name — the Big bell. It has been decided to build a bell tower especially for it . Bogoyavleniya  cathedral is the traditional place for the opening of a festival of Russian spirituality and culture’s days "Shine of Russia".
