The museum of history of Yekaterinburg is open for 1940 as Y. M. Sverdlov's House museum. In the museum the historical exposition, only in the Urals, with waxworks of Peter I, Ekatherine I and Ekatherine II, founders of Ekaterinburg, the Ural industrialists Demidov, the emperor Nicholay II and members of his family is presented. All figures are made by request of the museum by the Ural sculptors. The building in which the museum is located is a historical and cultural monument of regional value.
On the basis of the museum the Children's museum center — the special museum space stimulating creative and informative activity of children and uniting showroom, a theatrical and research zone and a creative workshop in the structure works.
The building in which the museum is located is a historical and cultural monument. The main house has been built in 1820 by a pochmeyster G. Layvashevsky. A wing — in 1837 the mining engineer A. G. Kachka. At the end of XIX — the beginning of the XX century in the building the well-known private library of S. A. Tikhotskoy was placed. During reconstruction of 2004 — 2005 the building is considerably reconstructed and expanded.
